The Super Stripe gene has been around for a fairly long time, yet has floundered in an almost unreal story of being bounced around from keeper to keeper. The Super Stripe gene first appeared in the US in the mid 90’s when a collector acquired a reverse stripe boa and a Super Stripe from Central America, believed to the Yucatan Penninsula. The founding Super Stripe entered one collection where he successfully bred to produce a group of heterozygous offspring. Of the small number of heterozygous offspring produced, some were striped themselves and some were not. The amount of striping ranged from two connected saddles, to 3/4 body length. The number of heterozygous offspring believed to be alive in the US today is about five or less, while the F1 captive produced Super Stripes are believed to have made it to Europe. Our group of heterozygous offspring are the first to produce Super Stripes since the gene was originally proven. Our lineage has been confirmed by the original owner of this project to be the real deal.
Super Stripe boas are amazing both in color
and pattern. While being variable, most are completely striped except for their
tails and retain the typical bulls-eye/target pattern along their sides. The
dorsal stripe is thick, and ranges from charcoal to red. It runs the length of
the body with an almost perfect grey stripe dividing it along the spine, giving
the appearance of three stripes. We
have produced several with almost a complete body stripe, and some with about 50% body stripe. One
thing is for sure, Supers are quite variable and one can be completely different from the
others. We have noticed that as these animals age, many develop an intense pink
coloration throughout their entire body. This gene will prove invaluable when crossed with existing color and
pattern morphs. In particular, the Sunglow Super Stripe and T+ Super Stripe
should be unreal and we are working to acquire the very best animals to plug
into this project.
We will be releasing a small number of Super Stripe Boas, and several possible heterozygous offspring in 2007. We also have a handful of animals left from 2006!
The heterozygous parents that produced these babies both had striping, and can be seen in our C.A. Striped collection page.
