The history of the salmon boa is quite an interesting one. The form of hypomelanism that this text is referring to is called the "salmon" trait. There are other forms of hypomelanism known, and proven, available on the market. Orange tail hypos and other Central American hypos are the most commonly found today. Although Rich Ihle wasn't the first person to prove the genetics of salmon boas, he is credited with the successful management and marketing of this morph. See the December, 2002 Reptiles Magazine article authored by Rich Ihle for the detailed history and development of the salmon boa. http://www.salmonboa.com/reptileMagArticle.html
Salmon boas, like their name would suggest, are given their red appearance from a reduction in black pigment. Some salmons have almost no black scales at all and others may still contain a significant amount. Salmon boas are born frequently with a very light grey base body color with red saddles/tails and eyes. As they mature, their red color intensifies throughout their body. Their saddles are often reduced in size, and their typical lateral pattern of "bulls-eyes or targets" is often very reduced or erased. Super salmons, the dominant form of the salmon trait, will have the most reduced pattern. A super salmon may have no black pigment throughout its body, but will almost always still have a mustache. I'm sure in a few more generations of selective breeding, breeders such as Rich Ihle will even eliminate that black pigment.
Existing Designer Morphs: Super Salmon (Dominant Salmon), Sunglow (Co-Dominant Salmon and Homozygous Albino), Anerythristic Salmon or Ghost (Co-Dominant Salmon and Homozygous Anerythristic), Salmon Arabesque (Co-Dominant Salmon and Arabesque), Salmon Jungle (Co-Dominant Salmon and Jungle), Salmon Motley (Co-Dominant Salmon and Motley), Salmon Pearlescent (Co-Dominant Salmon and Pearlescent), Bloody Salmon (Co-Dominant Salmon and Homozygous Blood).
